What should I wear?
Whatever makes you comfortable! All are welcome in this house of worship.
What about my kids?
All of God’s children are welcome to worship here! Kids are welcome AND appreciated within the entirety of our worship services.
On Sunday mornings, children are also invited to enjoy their own Sunday School programming downstairs during Worship Service. Children are encouraged to participate in the Worship Service.
We also offer nursery childcare during the entirety of the Sunday morning service.
Handicap accessibility?
Bement UMC is fully accessible through use of an elevator lift. Our ramp entrance is on the east side of the building facing N Piatt Street.
Do you celebrate Communion?
We celebrate Holy Communion on the first weekend of every month. The United Methodist Church believes in an open table. This means that all are welcome to partake of the bread and cup.
Our cups are filled with unfermented grape juice. You do not have to be a member of Bement UMC or any particular church to partake in the sacrament of Holy Communion. All people of all ages are invited to receive grace at the Lord’s Table.
What about Baptism?
If you are an adult seeking baptism or if you want to have your child baptized, please contact the pastor. We place no barriers on age or status for experiencing the sacrament of baptism.
We believe that baptism is part of a dynamic, lifelong process for growing in the grace of God. All people are invited to practice and remember this holy sacrament through discipleship and, if you wish, an act of baptismal remembrance with water. If you feel the Holy Spirit leading, please answer God’s call! We are happy to walk with you in your journey.
How do I become a member at BUMC?
Baptism is traditionally understood to be the first step we take into God’s church. If you have never been baptized, that is the first conversation we will have! If you have already been baptized, then we are happy to receive you in membership by profession of faith and confirmation of your commitment to service with love in our community.
All people, regardless of formal membership status, are invited to participate in the ministries of this church and serve in the capacity that God has called you towards.
